Protect Your Content

Once you get your website up and running you will be ready to do business. Starting your own business can be exciting and rewarding. It is important that you don't allow all of your hard work to be in vain. You should make every attempt to protect the content of your site from snipers who would use the content for their own gain.

Some of the things you might want to consider is making sure that others who view your website will not be able to copy or modify the site contents. Many people will copy your site content then change it enough so that it will not be identical to yours. They can then take this content and use it for their own site. Always make sure that the content on your site is protected from copying and pasting.

You will have to make the decision about whether or not you will allow people to print the content of your site. Printing is much like copying and pasting; once it is printed they can change it to suit their needs. You may want to consider requiring payment before you allow anything to be printed from your site.

Always make sure that your site is not compatible with Windows print screen. Many computers have this feature that will allow the user to print the contents that are displayed on the screen at the time. This is another way people can steal your content. It is best to always have this feature disabled on your site.

You may have content on your site that is time sensitive. You may want to check into web content expiry so that your paying customers will only have access to this information for a limited time only. This promotes good business because it tells people they must act now if they want the information you are offering. This also allows you to reach new markets and new customers when you advertise that your content changes on a regular basis.

You can also set your site up to require your customers to connect to the server before they can view your content. You can even keep track of how many times each customer views the site. Maybe you want to make special offers such as giving 10% off if they subscribe or purchase within the next seven days. Keeping track of how many times that particular customer signed in and what dates will help you enforce the date requirements. Perhaps you will allow someone to view your site free for the first time but then they must pay if they want to view the content again. This feature will tell you how many times that computer has tried to access your site.

Protecting your content is one of the most important functions of your online business. You are the one who has to pay for the content and you are the one who has to work and maintain the site and advertising of that site. It is a smart move to protect the content of your site so that others cannot use that content without your permission.
